One of the older subdivisions in the Sonoita area is the Crown C Ranch. It was created in the 1970’s as a haven for horse people. The concept was to take 1100 or so acres from the Crown C Ranch and make a subdivision with homes on at least 40 acres, no home being in the line of site of another and allow continued cattle grazing to preserve the agricultural aspects of the area as well as allowing residents a lower tax bill. The concept worked well with many fine homes being built and a predominant number of home owners were also horse people who could enjoy riding in the area or out into the Coronado National Forest.
